1989 was full of riveting, dramatic, hilarious and downright unforgettable moments! Here's a look back at the top ten BCD moments from the year 1989.

Number 10.

Cecily's Surprise

Located in Week Thirty-One

It had been the birthday from hell for Trent on August 3. He'd not only had to work, he'd also had to film a video with Phoenix that didn't seem like it would ever end. By the time he got home from this tiresome day, he was not in the mood to celebrate at all, but Cecily had a rather pleasant birthday surprise for him. After a bit of small talk and a present from 'Skyler,' Cecily announced that the next present was from her, dropping a home pregnancy test into his hand.

Number 9.

Kristen's Announcement

Located in Week Seventeen

For most of her life, Kristen had been a devout atheist. Though she'd married Tony, who was Jewish, she'd made no plans to convert, since neither one said it was very important to them. Then, in January 1988, Tony was almost killed in a botched robbery. For one of the first times in her life, Kristen found herself petitioning the God he so believed in to let him live, promising that if by some miracle he did, she would convert to Judaism. Well, guess what? Tony lived and Kristen kept her promise. On the night of their second anniversary, she surprised her husband with her announcement that she intended to convert to his faith.

Number 8.

Andy Shreds the Contracts

Located in Week Nineteen

While Joel was off on his paternity leave, Andy was left in charge of JLN, something that almost immediately went to his head. He began touting JLN's 'new regime' to anyone who would give him the time of day and gloated to all that he was running a better and much more artist-friendly ship than Joel ever had. The majority of the JLNers said they would believe that when they saw it and Andy, having taken a hard look at their contracts, proved his loyalty once and for all by shredding them. Although the artists were initially appalled (as was Joel), the new contracts Andy instituted won all of them over and hammered home the point of JLN's 'new regime' even more.

Number 7.

The Return of Tony M.

Located in Weeks One and Two

From the years 1982-1985, Tony Millerstein was the undisputed king of JLN Records. Not only was he the voice that put the label on the map, he was the very one the label was founded for in the first place. When personal problems forced Tony to make a tough decision in late 1985, he chose to abandon his spiked hair, brightly colored sport coats, mismatched shoes and screaming M-mongers to live a quieter life. However, three years later, he began to hunger for his old life. In the ultimate coup, Andy got him to sign back onto the label and on New Year's Eve, 1988, Tony took the stage for the first time in three years.

Number 6.

The Year of the Mullenese

Located in Weeks Nine and Ten

While Micah and the Mullenese had always been the best selling band on the JLN label, 1988 was when they really exploded, even crossing over onto Christian radio with the single "Love Falls Down." At the 89 Grammys, the band was the odds-on favorite for every award they were nominated for and they won a staggering amount of trophies, capping off what had been a tremendous year for the band.

Number 5.

Mel Dumps Frankie

Located in Week Forty-One

The romance of Mel and Frankie was a long time coming. For years, they suffered through a series of near misses and failed attempts at finding love, but they seemed to finally get it right in early 1989. For the first time in her life, Mel found herself truly in love with someone, while Frankie found himself taken by way more than Mel's beauty. Things were progressing along great - until Mel got a bee in her bonnet. Jealous over tourmate Delilah's pregnancy, she was forced to ponder where her own relationship with Frankie was headed. After determining that marriage just wasn't on his mind, Mel called him up and suggested they take a "time out" for a while.

Number 4.

Serena Loses It

Located in Week Twenty-Six

For years, Serena had toiled as Phoenix's assistant, often going above and beyond the call of duty. She'd even fallen for her attractive (but gay) boss more than once, before finally realizing that romance just would never be in the cards for herself and Phoenix. Right about then was when Serena became obsessed with finding the man that was right for her. Meanwhile, tabloid rumors began to circulate that Phoenix and Serena were way more than just friends and these were brought to Phoenix's attention. Feeling Serena had a right to know, he told her over lunch at a cafe and that's where things got ugly. Serena, horrified at the news, accused Phoenix of perpetuating the rumors himself and using her to hide his true sexuality from the public. Several separate (but equally heated) encounters followed, but this was the one that started it all.

Number 3.

The Solituders Retake the Stage

Located in Week Thirty-Three

It had been five long years since the trio of Reeves, Johnson and Millerstein had hit the road together, so when the first night of the BLT tour rolled around, it was something to see! In Anaheim, California, the crowd was rabidly anticipating the moment when these three talents would be reunited once more on stage and they were not disappointed. Trent (above) was on first, then Phoenix and then, the man of the hour, the 'late, great' Tony M. The adrenalin and intensity of that evening was off the chart and each of the performers involved say it was a night they will never forget.

Number 2.

Joel Resigns

Located in Week Twenty-Three

Joel had no choice but to take a paternity leave in March of 1989, since his wife Nina basically said she'd leave him if he didn't. Reluctantly, Joel appointed Andy his temporary replacement and Andy went 'mad with power' shortly thereafter (for more info on that, see #8 on this list.) Joel was unbelievably pissed when he learned what Andy had done, but almost overnight, he made a decision that stunned not only his company, but the world. Joel Gibson opted to resign, leaving the company in Andy's questionable hands. After enlisting Tony's help in writing the letter, Joel delivered several copies to Ming, to distribute among the JLN employees, and went up to personally deliver Andy's himself. There was no huge ceremony. No big to-do. There wasn't even an explanation. Joel simply walked into Andy's office, dropped the letter on his desk and walked out again, officially ending one era and jump starting a whole new one.

Number 1.

Phoenix Fires Serena

Located in Week Thirty

Relations between Phoenix and Serena had been strained for much of the summer, due to her harsh words (see #4) but they really fell apart one hot July day. Serena, anxious to mend fences with Phoenix, headed over to his place to make her apologies. Phoenix wasn't exactly pleased to see her, but did allow her in and give her a chance to explain herself. When Serena stumbled over apologies, Phoenix had to question how sincere they were and finally had his say on the matter. Everything he'd been unable to say for weeks came pouring out, resulting in a dynamic showdown - and Serena being fired. While the two have since mended their relationship, this confrontation will never be far from their minds - or the minds of readers, either, as this is the number one most unforgettable moment of 1989.
