![]() As the younger of two adopted
sons, Frankie Wright struggled early on with
finding himself. His older brother Eric was your classic overachiever,
excelling in everything from academics to athletics and quickly
becoming their father's pick of the litter. Frankie, however, was
content to sit in the background and allow his brother the glory. All
the things Eric did weren't for him, but he didn't know what was. Eric and Frankie were extremely close growing up and remained that way until the day Eric died - as a robbery victim. He and Frankie were walking home from the movies when they were held up at knifepoint. Eric refused to hand over what the robber wanted - the chain his grandfather had given him for graduating - and the robber simply stabbed Eric and took the chain anyway - right in front of his younger brother. Eric's death hit the Wright family hard. Their father left the family and Frankie seemed to lose himself even more, as he became determined to be everything Eric was, to cope with the loss. His mother discouraged him from being his brother and insisted he be himself. Unfortunately, Frankie still wasn't sure who that was. Bored, he joined the Marines at nineteen and it was there that he met his best friend, Tyler Whitney. Neither wanted to be in the military and each seemed to be on a quest to get discharged together. In Tyler, Frankie found a true friend and a brother - something he'd been sorely lacking for five years. After being discharged, Tyler and Frankie lost touch when Tyler relocated to L.A. to persue acting but met up again in 1984, when Frankie also made the trek to L.A. to persue music. By this time, Tyler had turned his attention to music as well, netting a songwriting contract with Word Publishing and beginning a band with a new friend, Jason Everett. Frankie helped out on producing the demos for the band (then called Jericho) and came to the attention of JLN in late 1986, around the same time he rediscovered his childhood Christianity. He was brought in to produce both Mel and Phoenix, but quickly became the road manager for their volatile "Through My Eyes" tour - a gig which only lasted a few months. Frankie put his own musical aspirations aside to focus on developing other artists and actually agreed to smuggle Jericho into the JLN studio to record their latest demo. The stunt temporarily cost him his job until Joel came to his senses, calling Frankie and saying that he would give him his job back and sign Jericho... if Frankie replaced Tyler as the lead singer. Although he was extremely reluctant, Frankie agreed and the newly christened A Few Good Men became a sensation. A year later, however, the bottom fell out. AFGM officially disbanded, only to reunite to give the band a proper send off. In the meantime, Frankie started dating Melodi Dixon, a young woman who'd been desperately trying to get his attention for a while. Theirs was a stable, happy romance, but Mel found herself wanting more...and when Frankie couldn't give it to her fast enough, she dumped him. Over the phone. The breakup was devastating for Frankie, but he's slowly beginning to put back the pieces in his life...just in time for Mel to come to her senses... |
