![]() Micah was born and raised in
London, England, the oldest of four boys
born to Joe and Rose Mullen. Throughout his childhood, Micah was known
as a "bad boy." He was constantly in trouble at school, gave his
teachers hell and even set a school bathroom on fire, when he was
sixteen. That stunt not only nearly killed him - bringing on a wicked
asthma attack - but also bought him a one-way ticket to a "special"
school for juvenile delinquents. Micah was bad, and he was proud of it. He had no real aspirations in life, other than to make as much money as possible - and make Patsy Rivers his bride. He had met her at a tender age, via her younger brother. Their romance was controversial, to say the very least, but both seemed to thrive on the buzz and eloped shortly after Micah's eighteenth birthday. Daughter Jennafer was born to the young couple a few years later and Micah's life changed dramatically. After having been focused on himself and his own wants for so long, he was confronted with the responsibilities of parenthood. Much to everyone's surprise, Micah got himself a "real" job as an electrician and turned out to be a very good father. Along with his brothers, Adam, Joe and Saul, Micah formed a band in the late 1970's, as a way to kick back and have some fun on the weekends, thus the band's original moniker, The Kickback Boys. In 1981, they came to the attention of American businessman Joel Gibson, who was interested in signing them to his brand new label. After much deliberation, the Mullen brothers decided to take the deal, changing the name of their band to Micah and the Mullenese. Their first record, Truth be Told was a smash sensation full of feel-good retro pop. Micah enjoyed his newfound celebrity and all the money it allowed him. However, he wasn't pleased with his music being pigeonholed and decided that with the second album, he would change things up a bit. Turned out, the audience liked everything just the way it was and the band's sophomore record sold poorly - until a twist of fate on Micah's 35th birthday. December 21, 1984, while the band was en route to a concert in Des Moines, they were involved in a horrible bus crash. Micah sustained the most serious injuries and had to have brain surgery to reduce the swelling. He was in a coma for five long days and was not expected to survive, but did, with a new outlook on things. Having always been spiritual, Micah wholeheartedly embraced Christianity after his brush with death, swearing off of drinking and swearing and vowing to show his friends (rather than tell them) what the experience had taught him. Unfortunately, Micah's life hasn't exactly been a bed of roses since his conversion. In early 1988, he learned his wife Patsy had been conducting an affair behind his back and wanted a divorce. Eventually, they reconciled, but there are still several unresolved feelings of anger and mistrust on Micah's part. He isn't sure he can ever forget her indiscretion and that tears him up inside. Micah's new friendship with pretty divorcee Nikki Turner has sent tongues wagging around JLN, but Micah insists that there's nothing going on between himself and his occasional houseguest...but for how long? |
