![]() Serena is the youngest child of
the Modine family as well as the only
daughter. That distinction provided her with lots of attention growing
up and did somewhat spoil her. In school, Serena was always very
scholarly, earning good grades and staying out of trouble. She had a
lot of dreams and she still does, such as marrying and having a house
full of babies. After graduating high school in 1985, Serena was looking for work. Her second-cousin-in-law Mel happened to be looking for a personal assistant at the time, so it worked out perfectly. Serena really enjoyed her job and lived vicariously through her boss, fantasizing about how wonderful it would be to be in her shoes. For as long as Mel had known her, Serena had had a deep-rooted attraction for Phoenix, a man she had never even met. She had posters of him all over her room, listened to his music constantly and gushed on and on about how "hot" he was to anyone who would listen. Knowing Phoenix - and not liking him very much - Mel was disgusted, but still introduced Serena to him, if only to show her that he was not all that perfect in person. She had expected his personality to repulse Serena - but it didn't. She was intrigued by him and started fantasizing even more, even asking if she could go with Mel on the Through My Eyes tour she was co-headlining with Phoenix in the fall of 1986. Mel had some reservations about it, but did relent. Serena's attraction for Phoenix grew even more intense when they began sharing a bus. It wasn't until at least two weeks into the tour that Serena finally learned the truth about him - the man she had been mooning over all these years was gay. That realization broke her heart and put a serious wedge between her and Mel. She couldn't believe that Mel had known this all along and hadn't bothered telling her. Instead, she had let her humiliate herself. It was the ultimate betrayal. On the rebound, Serena set her sights on Frankie, who was no more interested in her than Phoenix was. In fact, he seemed rather sweet on Mel, something that infuriated Serena. In a rage, she quit her job, went back home and later sobbed to Phoenix - who had become a good friend by this time - that she didn't know what she would do. He offered her the chance of a lifetime - to be his assistant. Serena jumped at the chance, but soon found all of her romantic impulses toward him returning. She was extremely ashamed of herself and vowed to keep it a secret. To get over it. Unfortunately, Mel, still pissed that she had so abruptly quit working for her, had other ideas. She told Phoenix all about Serena's crush on him, ending what little relationship they might have had left. Serena vowed to never speak to Mel again after that and so far, she has not. Serena's dreams of romance have not gone anywhere - although she seems to have finally realized that it's just not in the cards for her and Phoenix. Her longing to find the man of her dreams is the very thing that almost lost her her friendship with Phoenix this past summer. Enraged over rumors that she was engaged to her sexy boss, Serena lost it, hurling wild accusations that Phoenix had staged the whole thing on purpose - to hide his sexuality from the public. Several subsequent battles were raged, the third being the most severe. In an extremely heated moment in his living room, Phoenix actually fired Serena, even though he did eventually reconsider. For months, Serena raked herself over the coals about her own stupidity before she and Phoenix finally seemed to mend fences in October. Things are almost back the way they were before Serena spewed her vicious tirade, but will they ever truly be the same as before? |
